Junior Literacy Ideas
A website compiling some suggested websites, resources and ideas to help support early literacy curriculum skills. Many of the ideas are based on Barbara Brann's 'Magic Caterpillar's Building Blocks to Literacy'. This has been collated by Kerrin O'Connor (RTLB Cluster 15)

Use of The Magic Caterpillar's Building Blocks to Literacy Framework in Play Based Learning
I was fortunate enough to visit one of our local primary school who uses play-based learning in their new entrant classes.
The teachers use the Looking and Listening Domains to assess the children's next learning steps.
The activities that the children do each day reflect the building of the children's literacy skills.

Looking Domain
I was fortunate to be asked to do a demonstration of the Looking Domain for one of our local schools.
I worked with a small group of students doing some Looking Domain activities. There is going to be a number of volunteers working with the group to strengthen their looking skills.
There are three more videos on the Looking page.

2017
We have a number of schools beginning to use Barbara Brann's Magic Caterpillar Building Blocks to Literacy this year.
It has also been awesome to hear of schools continuing to implement the framework this year.
Unfortunately I have not had that much time to update the blog this year, as I have begun my RTLB postgraduate papers this year. But I do hope to build in some time to be able to add any resources or websites that I may come across.
We have been using the Treasure Kits a bit in our work with teachers and they are very positive about the resources.
Here is a photo of one of the kits.

Building Blocks to Literacy Framework
Here are some clips of Barbara Brann talking about the Framework.
I apologise for the quality, it was recorded on an ipad. The sound is not the best so you will need some speakers.

I have added a number of ideas to each of the tabs on the right.
Do pop in and have a look.
If you have any ideas for us please leave a comment so that I can follow up on them.
Thanks,
Kerrin

Awesome Progress
Here are some photos of some of the drawings that the children have done of themselves. The progress is due to explicit teaching using mat man and other direct acts of teaching.
